And we’re starting over again. New computer because the old one broke…when I was drunk and spilled Crystal Light on it. Though I may eventually try to get all the shit off the hard-drive, for now I’ll be slowly building a new music library.
I was about to type “rebuild” but that’s not accurate because I don’t have too much of an interest in grabbing all the stuff I once had. No doubt, I’ll slowly put my CDs onto iTunes—though one at a time, when I want to hear them—but a lot of music is probably just going to leave my ears in a sense.
That’s both sad and really liberating.
Sad because random-ass mixtapes and minor albums no one really talks about will probably fade away if they’re not there in iTunes. Of course, nearly every album’s just a Google Blog Search away, but without it being a few clicks away, the good songs on say, Grand Puba’s Retroactive will just slowly leak out of my musical memory.
That’s also, as I said, liberating. A chance to start over, to not have hundreds of albums downloaded just because I could, because I was supposed to care about them, sounds great.
